VOTE with kids?

As citizens we have the privilege and duty of electing office holders and influencing public policy. Participation in the political process affects our communities and nation today and in the future.

last night we had a red, white and blue dinner. (thanks for the props, mom!)
the kids liked it and they all dove into the american flag fruit dip.
after we talked about the right and privilege we have to vote.
today the kids went with me to vote.

i wanted them to see what it was like. so i waited to vote till i picked them up from school.
i enthusiastically showed them how to match up the line to vote for president.
we all felt empowere
d. and we gave a little cheer.
that was all they had interest in. they became restless. i skimmed down the house of reps as i heard growling, laughing, banging. i asked alex to come stand next to me and hold the
leg of the table. i gave bailey 'the eye'. i touched adam's face and asked him to be nice.
as i voted for prop 201, the table shook profusely. (thanks alex)
at the judges, i turned around to see alex twirling in a circle, with adam's stroller
above his head. adam was gone from view. then i heard him growling again and realized he was under my voting table. after a few more motherly threats, we walked
to the machine that eats the ballots. mine went in and then beeped. i had over voted
on healthcare- so i took it, looked it over, fixed that one, and handed it back. it accepted it.
whew.

as we stood there, alex asked if the loud beeping from the machine (when it read our ballot) meant we were too loud. to which i replied, YES.

in 4 years, i won't have kids this age. which makes me relieved, and sad too. they are such cute little devils. every. last. one.

That's a great idea in getting little one's involved. That's something I'll have to do 4 years from now.

There is nothing like taking your kids everywhere! Oh...the memories! BTW the Evening of Excellence was AWESOME the other night! The pictures were the highlight! What talent you have. I know that that experience (of trying on the dresses and taking their pictures) have made a lasting positive impression. Thanks a ton!

Your a brave lady! That's why I'm so thankful to that they now have voting early and in the mail. It's awesome that you used it as a teaching experience. I'm sure it made a lot of impact all though neither of you will realize it till later.

Ok,I will attest that this was a truly hysterical moment to be able to witness. I wish I could've seen where you were to have the kids come by me! You guys all get me to laugh the most gut wrenching laughs possible. Thanks for the good times!
