fab scorpion tip

my mom came to town last week and really helped me
move in. it was fun to have her!

one awesome thing she left my family with:
this nifty tip she picked up from our scorpion-savvy
neighbors.

this is how it goes:
as soon as you see a scorpion you-
1. walk to your broom closet.
2. remove broom.
3. walk {briskly} back to the scorpion site.
4. hold brush side of broom and extend long handle toward scorpion.
5. touch the end (which you previously taped with duct tape- sticky side OUT) to the scorpion.
6. unwrap tape and dispose of the pesky beast as you see fit.
7. re-wrap broom stick with tape for next encounter.

this fab tip has changed my world!! you just have to
remember to use it.

just this morning i saw a scorp crawl about 3 inches from my face. it crept around from the other side of the front door. it's the same color as the door! i flipped, took my shoe off, and was debating the attack mode i would choose. (yeah, i FORGOT the broom bit). i noticed it was not on a flat surface, and i knew from experience that if you try to squish them like that, they will find a way to escape their fate. so i picked up a nearby basketball.
i hoped to bounce it on the door, jar him a bit, and maybe he would crawl onto the flat part of the door so i could get him with the shoe i had in my other hand. not so smart.
the ball hit the door, then the floor and bounced right up to sweet adam's little face. i hadn't seen that coming. the scorpion didn't budge. sheesh.
so i asked adam to step aside, and i made a second, 3rd, and 4th attempt with the ball. still, the scorpion was not phased.
i ditched the ball idea and held my shoe over my head, arm cocked and ready to end the scorpion's sorry, pathetic life. then i envisioned my shoe bouncing off the door -still in my hand- and the impact hurling the scorpion in my direction.
is there no other way?!?

it was then that the sound advice of my mother came into my frantic little head.
i walked to my broom closet. i followed steps 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the tip. that was painless!!! for #6, i chose to drown him under running water.
then i got a paper towel, took off the tape, put it on
the floor and flattened the wad with my shoe- just to make sure he didn't find his way out of my garbage can after i'd discarded him in the duct tape trap.

may this come in handy for all those who suffer from scorpion infestation.
we have used it 5 times in one week!!

YOU HAVE THAT MANY SCORPIONS?!?!?! That really is an infestation, and it gives me the heebie-jeebies!

Good idea, though.
It would probably work fine for spiders, too, although it's easy enough to squash them without reciprocation.

I'm suddenly happy to live in Utah without the lovely desert critters like scorpions... and roaches!

Oh, you poor thing! And Adam, getting hit in the head... I feel so bad for him.

And I feel so bad for you guys living in such a scorpion-infested area! Luckily we haven't seen as many in the last few years in our house (Knock on wood!). Hopefully they will all go away soon!

I know i should not be laughing so hard right now...I have the vision of this taking place. I can't believe you have that many scorpions. Thanks for the tip, however when I am in the heat of the moment i hope I remember it. :)

Hey Amy! I saw your blog on Amber's blog! Your blog is so cute! So, we've had a scorpian problem in our garage before-but holy cow! Next to your face? SCARY! Christopher (my hub) likes to use a hammer and a black light. He goes out at night and kills atleast one a night- he was told that's the best way to get rid of them. Just keep their numbers down. His preference is the hammer-quick and does the job he sais. I've also heard a kitchen blow tourch works well too!
So if you pass our house at night and see my husband outside with a black light and a hammer, don't be alarmed. He's just trying to find a scorpian!
