we need a little christmas!

i was talking to cherie the other day about christmas- and how the season starts earlier and earlier every year. she was saying she used to laugh when the stores would have the christmas stuff up at halloween. i agree. from a marketing standpoint- it bugs that the stores try to up their sales by starting earlier each year. however...

i am feeling different this year. maybe slowly changing each year. i feel like the christmas season can start in november-and i'm fine with that!! it's the whole season of family, memories old, and memories to be made. it's the acts of service, the excitement of giving gifts, the glow of the lights, the sound of christmas music, the lauhgter and talking while baking treats, the smells of baking, the family parties, caroling, hot chocolate, the excitement the kids bring into the home. it's also just a feeling of good will 'tward men and feeling absolutely blessed. i love this season, and i am so thankful for a loving Father in heaven who gave us his Son. what a wonderful time of year!

cherie and i decided we need a little christmas!
and, i used to laugh so hard at this song! for some reason angela lansbury just made it so dramatic. as a teenager i would sing it mockingly. then it would get stuck in my head for the whole season. (remember that, emily?) not anymore. now i have embraced it. :) i love every single line -except for the fruitcake. i prefer fudgecake!
(just found out it's in a musical- hence the theatrics.)
pretty hokey, but i'm ok with that.

Beautiful site! You popped up on my Angela Lansbury google alert. Of course, "We Need a Little Christmas" is dramatic and everything it should be because it's from the 1966 Broadway show "Mame" by Jerry Herman, for which Angela won her first of four Tony awards. Mame has just recently lost all of her fortune in the great depression and has lost yet another job and is barely able to provide for her family, such that it is. Not hokie, but perfect and a lovely sentiment.

You do such a great job decorating your page & home, I just absolutely love it. I used to enjoy coming to your house each season to babysit, just to see what you whipped up for decorations. Well that and the kids, too, I guess. ;)
